Sandra Filetti
Advocate-Educator
Sandra is a professional educator of 28+ years, as well as a victim advocate and educator of the victim experience in Intimate Partner Violence. Sandra's commitment to working as an advocate for victims of abuse and to raising awareness of IPV in the community resulted in formal recognition. She's a nominee for the Attorney General's Victim Services Awards of Distinction.
With a unique insight in the area of IPV, Sandra has developed and delivered presentations that educate the community on how to empower and support victims and their families. Through her sessions, she enables a depth of understanding into the profile of abusers and the various layers of the victim experience. She describes the challenges, barriers and approaches to helping victims. Sandra also facilitates a victim simulation workshop - "In Her Shoes" - that involves hands-on scenarios and case studies, helping participants to walk in the shoes of victims and to better understand the struggles that they encounter. Her expertise and dynamic presentations are sought after by diverse groups including the DRPS' Police Learning Centre, Victim Services of Durham Region, McMaster University Women and Gender Equity Network, UOIT and Durham College course in Criminology, Victimology, Violence Against Women and Family Mediation. Sandra's exemplary advocacy work has led her to reach and inspire a broad range of individuals and groups, spanning from secondary students to various community groups and shelters.
